Meet Jill, a 14-year-old border collie. Here she is with her absolute favorite person, her Mom, Renee.
Jill was a hardworking dog on a sheep ranch until she lost her hearing at age 10. Sheep dogs need to be able to hear the calls of the trainer to perform their duties so Jill retired. Those of you who have seen the movie "Babe" have seen a herding dog in action. I've been to Jill's farm and have seen these dogs work their magic and it is amazing to watch.
Jill has spent her last few years as a house dog and loving companion. She has had some health scares in the last year, happily she survived them all. But I asked Renee if she had a nice portrait done of Jill in the eventuality that she passes away. I was prompted to ask because I had recently talked with my neighbor whose beloved Maine Coon cat had died unexpectedly and all they had was a blurry cell phone picture of him. It brought home to me the importance of having a remembrance of our dear animal companions and so I decided to add pet photography to my services. I think it is especially important to work with older animals.
So we did a session with Jill and Renee. Jill is quite a shy dog who wasn't much into all of this but after a bit she got more comfortable and relaxed. In the end we got some lovely portraits of the two of them that Renee will always have to remember Jill by.
However, our attempt to add Girl Cat to the mix was not quite as successful but is still a great moment to have!
